About

More then 70 years ago the aftermarket hot rod companies that we all know today were just starting out. They were primarily concentrated in Southern California in the beginning, however as time went on they started popping up all around America. Soon automotive shops that were primarily service based started carrying parts that local hot rodders and engine builders were making which would give way to the Speed Shop. Those speed shops would serve as places to buy and promote the parts that everyone wanted on their Hot Rods. That was a time when the guys who made the parts were the same guys who used them on their own cars, and were all built, and bought locally. Then speed shop catalogs would help those parts spread to the masses along with nationally distributed magazines. Now we have many different outlets to find what we’re looking for.

The term “local” has taken on a whole new meaning with how small the world has now become in comparison to 70 years ago. Sugar City Speed Shop wants to bring back the time when there were “local” speed shops who promoted and inspired guys to build parts on their own. Our goal is to provide a place where the parts that are sold are made by guys who need and use them themselves. Plain and simple, we want to help hot rodders sell their parts so they can focus on making more cool stuff while also providing a place for the rest of us to find that special part for their project.

We also want to promote this idea of “local” again by providing parts that are made by people who might be in your town and not off shores by someone making them by the tens of thousands. While Sugar City Speed Shop might not be located in your town, one or more of the builders who sell parts here might! We’re going to try to make sure everything is “local” from the parts to the apparel. Even our shirts are 100% American Made which we hope sets the pace for everything else we’ll soon list.

Our hope is to provide a useful tool to those who need a particular part as well as those who are making them all while providing a place to check in on for inspiration and general hot rodding activity.

Thank you for the support!
